Dr. (h.c) Nelson Kuria, MBS, OGW, F.IoD (K), is a distinguished leader in Kenya's financial services and cooperative sectors, with more than three and a half decades of executive experience. He holds a BA in Economics and an MA in Leadership Studies and is widely recognized for transforming CIC Insurance Group from a very small cooperative insurer into one of the largest and most influential groups in the region and the leading cooperative insurer in Africa during his 14-year tenure as Group MD/CEO. Dr. Kuria has served in several high-level governance roles, including Chair of the Association of Kenya Insurers, Kenya National Entrepreneurs Savings Trust, and the Governing Council of Africa International University. He has twice been honoured by the State with the Order of the Grand Warrior (2005) and Moran of the Burning Spear (2011) in recognition of his national impact in insurance and co-operative development. Currently, Dr Kuria is serving as Chair of CIC Group, Smep Microfinance Bank, Institute of Directors of Kenya, and continues to advise on governance, co-operative enterprise, and leadership.
